Final Concept Map

Here is the final concept map. I will be posting the URL for the website tomorrow after I finish my final touches on it.

I'll add the google map to the interactive classroom page. I added the podcast already it is just in the format of a YouTube video because I thought more people would listen to it if it was directly linked to the page instead of downloading an audio file.

Is this ok for the final concept map? I wasn't sure what you guys wanted to include so if you want me to change anything just let me know. Also I noticed that the google map wasn't included along with the virtual pen pals and the podcast is still missing. I was thinking we don't have anything about the culture of Kalamazoo so I am going to work on that as a lesson. But I think another great lesson would be about advertising- I thought that we could include in the creating a live museum ways we could get students to advertise the museum by looking at different newspapers from Kalamazoo from the past. I think we need an introductory lesson as an overview of what our unit will be over. I was also thinking of having another lesson of Kalamazoo then and now which would have the students look at how Kalamazoo has changed over the years. These are just ideas I have been coming up with while doing the concept map. Is that something you guys would like to add? Let me know.

IDEAS ON LAYOUT

So here are some of my ideas on our layout of our website.

• Main page - description of project and website. The main page could also include where we would talk about the project our team is working towards and what this semester is leading up to. 
• Page on "Historical Landmarks/Buildings in Kalamazoo" - at this page we can include any lesson plans, digital stories, etc that fit in this category. 
• Page on "Historical Figures of Kalamazoo" - at this page we can include any lesson plans, digital stories, etc. 
• Page on "virtual penpals" -at this page we can include our virtual pen pal part and our concept map. 
• Page on "Interactive Classroom" - this was an idea that Jessica had that I like as well. We could include this in "virtual penpals" page too? We can include our inspriation map (concept map) and explain the effective uses of a blog (and this is where we would add our blog link) We could also put our podcast on here. 
• Page on "Create a Live Museum!" - this page can include what our final project would be for the students. This would be a good page to add some of the new items that we need. 
• Page on "Standards" - This can be one of our last pages that includes the standards that we need. 

I just wanted to post some starting ideas on here so you guys can look at it. I will work on this tomorrow as well. I think as long as we figure out the pages we are each going to focus on and include in our website, by lets say wed at the latest. 

We also each have to make a new original item. I am open on doing whatever will fit best into our website.

I added a little more information to the home page of our web site, and I also added the WMU logo. I can't figure out how to make the logo smaller though. I also couldn't figure out how to add links off of the home page to go to other pages to add assignments on those pages.

Final concept map

Hey, I was wondering if you guys could be more specific about the historical landmarks, building etc. that you researched to add to the final concept map just so we can show that these are the places, buildings that our students will be making the museum about. For the majority of the project I focused on the historical figures and for my second lesson plan I talked about population and how WMU and other local colleges have affected population so I will add that to the final concept map. Let me know if you guys have anymore ideas regarding the website or final concept map. Is the idea of the fixing the collaborative podcast still on?

Team Website info

The Team Gmail account email is kalamazoohistory2012@gmail.com. The password is Western11. I already made a Google Sites page. I haven't started working on creating any pages but I would like to start working on it some time this week. We still need to decide who is doing what and how we are going to put it together. She wants the website to be organized the way we would teach it not based on the assignments we were assigned. Let me know your ideas as soon as possible as I would like to get working on it so we can get the best grade possible.

Redoing the collaborative podcast

Do you guys want to redo the collaborative podcast? I asked if we could redo it to get the points lost and I think we should redo it so when we create our website it is improved since we have to include that in the website.

Team Webpage

Our final project is a website. I will set up the team email account and start the webpage. What parts of the website would each of you like to make? We have the use all the lesson plans so we each will have a page for both our lesson plans. We have to include all the digital stories and podcast as well as the virtual pen pal assignment and concept map. We also have to make our final version of the concept map. I will also work on that if you guys would like. Let me know of some of your ideas we can use for our final concept map.

Digital Story Ideas

We each need to make a digital story that goes with a lesson plan we have created. For my digital story I was thinking of either making one one the historical figures or the importance of the local colleges and the growing population in Kalamazoo. What are some of your guys ideas?

We all have to do out podcasts on different topics. Which topics were you girls thinking about covering in your podcast?

Lesson Plans

This week we each have to make a lesson plan using TaskStream. We have to each do something different and it must be a topic from our concept map we made. I think we should do our lesson plan on the topic we did the web evaluations. I will make my lesson plan about historical figures. For my lesson I was thinking that I could have the students research an historical figure and give a presentation using Powerpoint dressed like the historical figure. Also I think we need to lower our grade level to third grade because according to the michigan standards they would be learning Michigan history in the third grade instead of the fifth grade but if you guys want to keep it at fifth grade that is ok with me. Its just a suggestion.

This map shows where the students are from that we will be communicating with for this project. One group of students are from Washington DC and the other group is from New York City. These students will be sharing historical monuments and landmarks from their city.

Virtual Penpals and Google Map

Hey guys!
I started the Google docs. I know it is not probably detailed enough, so feel free to add/delete anything!! I also started making the map. I simply just mapped the cities that we are using in our assignment. I do not know how detailed we need to get, but we could even make a map of where the specific monuments and/or landmarks that the students would talk about. I shared the map, if I did it right? But let me know what you guys think and like I said feel free to add or delete things! Just thought I would get us started! :)

Virtual Penpals ideas

Hey, this week our assignment is Virtual penpals. We need to come up with an assignment that will promote cultural understanding. What are your guys ideas for this?

Ideas for the concept map

I came up with a new concept map using our old ideas but also some new ideas. If its not good we can fix it or not use it all together. I just had some free time and was experimenting.

Fixing The Concept Map

We need to fix the concept map. Our big project was not in the center. The big project is creating a live museum. I know we each have busy schedules but I think it would be best if we meet one day this week and fix the problems.

Web Evaluation Planning

This week's assignment is a web evaluation. Each of us have to find 3 websites and evaluate them. We have to evaluate different websites none can be the same. I think we should decide which websites each person should look at so we don't do the same websites.

I was wondering what all your ideas are on this project. I was thinking that the museum idea for historical homes is a good one. Also, any preferences on what program you guys want to use for the concept map? I am not familiar with any of the programs, but will start looking into some of them.
