IDEAS ON LAYOUT

So here are some of my ideas on our layout of our website.

  • Main page - description of project and website. The main page could also include where we would talk about the project our team is working towards and what this semester is leading up to.
  • Page on "Historical Landmarks/Buildings in Kalamazoo" - at this page we can include any lesson plans, digital stories, etc that fit in this category.
  • Page on "Historical Figures of Kalamazoo" - at this page we can include any lesson plans, digital stories, etc.
  • Page on "virtual penpals" -at this page we can include our virtual pen pal part and our concept map.
  • Page on "Interactive Classroom" - this was an idea that Jessica had that I like as well. We could include this in "virtual penpals" page too? We can include our inspriation map (concept map) and explain the effective uses of a blog (and this is where we would add our blog link) We could also put our podcast on here.
  • Page on "Create a Live Museum!" - this page can include what our final project would be for the students. This would be a good page to add some of the new items that we need.
  • Page on "Standards" - This can be one of our last pages that includes the standards that we need.
I just wanted to post some starting ideas on here so you guys can look at it. I will work on this tomorrow as well. I think as long as we figure out the pages we are each going to focus on and include in our website, by lets say wed at the latest.

We also each have to make a new original item. I am open on doing whatever will fit best into our website.

  1. I think those ideas are great! How about we choose six of the pages above so that we can all do two each. I'll do the page on historical landmarks and buildings and the interactive classroom page.
Bianca should probably finish the home page because I know she has already put a lot of work in to it.

    Does that sound good?

We can cancel out the virtual penpals page and I'll just put that on the interactive classroom page.

  2. That sounds good. I will do the standards page and the live museum page. I have not focused on historical figures in any of the assignments so I do not have any information on that.
Jessica, since you want to do the historical landmarks/buildings page, do you want me to send you the links to my lessons because they both focus on historical buildings in Kalamazoo?
    or...
we can split up the landmarks and buildings into two pages and I can focus on the buildings and you the landmarks? Let me know what you think! :)

  6. I used Trebuchet font and size 16. It says we have to have the same font and size throughout.

  7. So I will work on the home page, historical figures, population page as one of my lessons was on what brings people to Kalamazoo. I am working on finalizing the final concept map as well. Just a reminder we have to have an original lesson plan, digital story etc. that was not assigned previously. I think I am going to go over the requirements again just to make sure we are covering everything on it because I really want us to get a good grade.

  8. I've already added a lot to my two pages. I am doing the historical landmarks page and interactive classroom page. I added the virtual pen pal assignment to the interactive classroom page.

**We also need to add something new on each page in addition to an "original item"

  9. Jenna, I know you said you were going to do the standards page, but I just re-read the requirements and it said the standards have to be on the opening page. I think that means the home page.

Just wanted to remind you because I didn't realize this! =)

  11. Okay I think I am finished with my portion of the website. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

On my historical landmarks page my new idea is a section of possible activities in the classroom, and on my interactive classroom page I choose to write tips on how to use an interactive classroom in the special education classroom.

I also made my "original item" an activity based on the virtual pen pals assignment on google docs and that is located on my interactive classroom page.

Good luck finishing up your sections!!

  13. I believe I am done with my pages. I will look at it again tomorrow for touch ups. Also, I think we need to reorganize our link pages on the left hand side of the page, but I could not figure out how to do it. Do any of you guys know how? I think the order should be, Home, historical figures, historical landmarks, historical buildings, interactive classroom, creating a live museum, what brings you to Kalamazoo, and then standards. We also still need to add our podcast, (I couldnt find it on the page?) concept map, and then do you guys think we should add our blog on the home page somewhere as well? Just some thoughts and ideas I had! :)

  14. I will be finished with my pages either by tonight or Sunday afternoon. I am finishing up with the final concept map and will bowe putting it on the home page. I was thinking that we could add more about creating the live museum such as a lesson on how we would advertise our live museum as part of our lesson we could have the students look at different newspapers from Kalamazoo and how advertising was done in the past. I think we need a page about the culture of Kalamazoo as well. I will work on adding those to my pages. Also we need to incorporate our web evaluation sites we evaluated in the beginning of the semester. She also said she doesn't want us to list our resources so we might consider naming the website and adding a link to it. Also the podcast is missing when i went to find it

  15. Also I will post the URL of the website tomorrow when I finish up any last minute changes to my pages. Is that ok with you guys?

  16. I was thinking that one of my new lessons could be about looking at Kalamazoo Then and now. I would have students research a specific part of Kalamazoo and compare it to what it looked like in the past and how it has changed. its just a suggestion though.

  17. I incorporated all of my web evaluations in the pages I did. For my new item, I made a lesson plan on creating a live museum. I can add the additional lesson on that page about how we would advertise the live museum. I did mention that part of it in the other lesson that I made, but if you would rather make an additional lesson let me know.
